Administrivia:
Joanna has been in touch with many of you as part of the featured teams pre-race interviews. Please ensure you give her some of your time, as your participation helps to grow the race's acclaim and by extension adventure racing at large. We give you guys this opportunity to increase your team's visibility in the sport and also to encourage folks on the sidelines to participate in it themselves.
Canoe Shuttling:
For the background, please refer to this Race Forum post: http://www.trailblazerar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7149
With regards to the canoes, they will be shuttled with paddles and PFDs inside of them. Everything that is in the canoe needs to be affixed to the inside of the canoe (under the crossbars/seats) in a secure way, such that it won't fall out or move around during the shuttle. If you want to put any food or otherwise inside, that's fine (make sure it is secure). Just don't go crazy because the volunteers that will be loading/unloading the canoes value their backs. If they find a gallon of water in there or something else heavy, they just might drink it instead of lug it around with your 70lb canoe. Which brings me to my next point:
We are not responsible for the loss of any equipment attached (or more likely unattached) in the canoes, so take care to properly secure anything on it or if you cannot figure out a way to properly secure it, don't put it on in the first place.
Yep, just another note to set expectations before the check-in.
Check-In and Race Start:
Speaking of canoes, many of you early birds to check-in will be able to load your canoes in the shuttle trucks Friday night. After the trucks are full, the remainder of you will be asked to leave them in the starting area morning of the race (Saturday morning as you get ready to go).
Race check-in has been streamlined a bit. There is a mandatory gear check. So be prepared to present all of your mandatory gear at check-in.
In addition to some of the canoes, the starting area is where we'll be dropping cars as well. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE carpool to the starting location. If you cannot carry all your bikes on one car, then take both cars, drop bikes, then go drop the 2nd car somewhere else (the lodge parking lot or whereever), then come back and park the single car. Carpool to the start and we should be able to make it work space-wise.
