Detailed Results:

Yes, they are finally complete. I've been racing the last 3 weekends so that really delayed things.

Lots of awesomeness in them:
  • The fastest five teams at the Bull Mountain mountain biking grab bag predominately chose to avoid CP10.  The exception was WEDALI, who chose to avoid CP8.  Coincidentally, they were also the fastest team overall for that section.  Avoiding CP10 was the choice made by the majority of the teams who ended up at the top of the rankings for the race, even though the same number of teams who cleared the section chose to avoid CP8 (11 teams) and CP10 (11 teams).  So it looks like avoiding CP10 was, in fact, the correct strategy, and that WEDALI are exceptional riders when it comes to the single track (picking a statistically inferior strategy but still coming out well on top for the section).
  • Would be interested to see total times per discipline.  So total up the hiking and biking legs.  Would also be useful to see the percentage breakdown of time spent on each discipline over total course time per team.  Compare that to the average percentage of the entire field, and it would show how teams did at each discipline against the rest of the field (what discipline should they train on).  Homework, anybody?  If anybody wants to do this, the data is there.  Feel free to post to the Trailblazers' forum for everyone to see when you are done!
  • Special mention to team This Is Gonna Hurt, for their dedication to finishing.  Last year, they were on their way to the finish line, 70% of the course behind them, but had to drop out in the wee hours of the morning.  The must have sworn not to DNF this year, and were certainly on a mission to reach the finish line.  They did, and so they beat every other team that did not have the wherewithal and/or wisdom to do so.  Inferring from the results, it appears their strategy was to skip every optional CP that wasn't directly on their path between mandatory CPs...except one.  The optional that was on their direct path, but that they skipped, was CP20 - Steele Bridge, which marked this year and last year the beginning of the long bike ascent.  The story within the story was that Steele Bridge was where they threw in the towel last year.  Did they avoid it out of strategy or spite!?  Not sure.  But the end result was the same.  They reached the top of the stairs, making the cutoff, and finishing the race an official team!   Awesome!
  • Layer 3 are consistently fast stair climbers.  Top 3 splits up the stairs this year from the base (CP28/TA):

    114 Layer 3 00:21
    122 Paradofobia 00:22
    119 Nature Cure 00:22

    Top 3 quad-burners this year:

    9 ATP/CP0 00:20
    44 Tabula Rasa 00:22
    30 Layer 3 00:22

That said, I must brag that Laura, Mike, and I tied ATP/CP0 at 20 minutes, for the record, after the full course vetting. At the same time, I'll say that it wouldn't have helped us that much, as this year's field SMOKED our time trial's total time this year (we would've finished 20th overall at the Atomic this year).
  • I said early during the RU1 that 25%-40% of the field clearing the course.  I'm proud to say that 39% of the teams cleared the course.  This was 6% more than last year, on an admitedly harder course with tougher conditions.  Given the format change, we made no predictions on total time in motion, but here are the numbers for the finishing teams.  Again, I'm pleased to say the middle 50% of finishing teams were +- 1 hour of the 24 hour mark (while time in motion does not fully capture the time out there in the wild, it was a key metric for us with regards to course design/predictions).
